Ask Terry Questions Multiple IRA beneficiaries

Multiple IRA beneficiaries

By Terry Savage on March 07, 2022 | Financial Planning / Retirement

you state in your 2/27 column “you can name one or two beneficaries.” I believe this is incorrect; I have five adult children and rhey are all named as equal beneficiaries in my living trust.

Terry Says

Yes, you can divide the beneficiaries equally among more than one or two!! But that can get complicated after death regarding distributions. Under current law, non-spousal beneficiaries have 10 years to withdraw all. Each would have to convert separately to an inherited IRA if they can’t agree on a withdrawal plan — ie immediately, through the 10 year period, or at the end.
