Ask Terry Questions My financial portfolio

My financial portfolio

By Terry Savage on March 11, 2023 | Investments

I am an 80 year old woman with about $500,000. I am down about $40,000 in my IRA which is invested in the market. My other investments are in an I Bond, CD’s, Pimco, US Treasury Bonds and an Annuity. I’m ready to cash in my IRA and invest in something that is more stable. I’m in good health at the moment. I’m widowed and remarried, but we keep our money separate except for day to day expenses. We live in my husband’s house. If he dies before me , I can stay here as long as I want. Chances are I would eventually move.
What do you think about me getting out of the market? Thank you for your advice. Linda

Terry Says

I think if it’s keeping you up at night, it’s all right to sell. But DON”T take it our of your IRA — except for the required minimum distributions. Just move it into a money market fund INSIDE your IRA.
