my husband owes child supporrt

By Terry Savage on April 29, 2020 | Wild Card

my husband owes child support from his previous marriage and we alsio have 2 kids of our own , will I still get a stimulis check for myself and our 2 kids we filed in 2018 together a joint return and I didn’t work any that year…. but we filed jointly when I checked lour status it says we qualify for a stimulis payment and it will be direct deposited in my account so does this mean we will receive it?

Terry Says

You are not supposed to receive a stimulus payment if you file jointly with someone who owes back child support. Some may slip through. But if I were you, I’d file a 2019 return immediately as married filing separately, take your children as dependents, and give them a reason to pay you and your children.
