Neighbor Medicare/ nursing home bad choice

Hi Terry , I sent you a question last week and I did not hear back…it was concerning my next-door neighbor whose family I’m trying to help. She was at the doctors office. The doctor told her she needed to be hospitalized ..her daughters took her over to the hospital, she was having a problem that her legs would not work. She’s 85 years old …the hospital of course put her in. Did a plethora of tests Kept her for three days but only coded observation. I had told the girls don’t forget make sure that the hospital codes it as your mom being admitted. With all the worry, all the fuss I am sure they forgot but anyway, next step…last Sunday night they said she needed to go to a nursing home , so they sent her across the street to the nursing home right across from the hospital where they took her and gave her room, got her settled. The next morning one of the girls got a call asking for a credit card because they said that you’re going to be paying $250 a day for your mother to stay here . This lady‘s husband died in December, they have no pension. She has Medicare and she has a supplement but nevertheless the hospital is going to be billing them because of the observation and now the nursing home will not accept her as a 90 day 100 day Medicare patient because she was not admitted. Is there anybody you can steer these girls to that will help them they are really desperate , their mom has little funds. She has a home ( the girls are trying to get it ready to sell. The girls are not in a position themselves to help with expenses.
