How can we put pressure on IL a to give up on getting the overpayments if not associated with fraud??? The money according to the IDES is supposed to go back to the Feds but if FEDS are okay with not getting it back then the state really has no need to get it back. Ugh
Thank you

I have contacted IDES and the Governor’s office with no response yet. But, YES – the new stimulus bill (IF signed by the current President) would allow states to stop trying to collect unemployment overpayments. As you know, Illinois has been sending out letters saying they miscalculated PUA payments and demanding money back. Many of these people are still unemployed!
My grandmother always said “you can’t get blood out of a turnip!” I think that applies here. Still the state has been threatening to reduce or eliminate current and continuing unemployment payments (or future tax refunds) to fix the state’s mistake! They say they MUST do it, but order of the IRS!

Again I have asked the Governor’s office and IDES whether they will stop attempts to collect now that the new sitmulus bill relieves them of that responsibility!
