Obtaining hx of SSI tax payments of deceased family member
Hi Terry Is there some way to find out if a person (now deceased) has paid or needed to pay income tax on their SSI benefits? Person was 85 Y O and we would like to find out if anything is owed. She wasn’t paying in recent years and said she didn’t need to but we are not sure about that. Tried finding out on line but was not successful. Would appreciate any direction on how to access this information. Annual income was just under $30,000.

PS: Pretty sure she didn’t have a “portal” set up.

Don’t ask! Likely she didn’t owe taxes. And her tax liability ended at her death unless she was part of an agreement with the IRS. Has her estate gone through probate? If so, no worries. The estate can be distributed. I’m assuming that she was living only on SS, and did not have other taxable income, and failed to file.
