This question came up because of a radio caller who uncovered a stash of old $1,000 bills in his parents’ house. I suggested he go to this website: www.OldMoneyPrices.com.
The value of any old paper money –as you’ll see from this website–is not just in the fact that the denomination is no longer being printed, but in the origin (the place it was printed) the series, the year — AND the condition of the bill.
DO NOT SEND ANY OLD MONEY to any coin or antiquities dealer. Just contact them with a photocopy of the bill. Then you can get a range of value depending on their assessment of the “quality” of the paper bilol.
