Overpayments
Hello Terry,
my younger brother Mateo has autism and my family and I were sent a letter about overpayments worth $16,000. Starting January 2024, my family were told that his check would be taken away and when my mom (who is his representative) goes to the Social Security office, nothing’s been processed about those payments. But they started taking more than half his check this month. What could we do about this?
Terry Says
Probably nothing, except file an appeal for a waiver. List your reasons — assuming they gave you a reason for the cutback. Often they don’t give a reason — just stop paying!
Please go to www.SocialSecurityHorrorStories.com and post your story. We re fighting to get Congress to look at these stories and get SS to stop the clawbacks.
