Ask Terry Questions Payment Status Not Available

Payment Status Not Available

By Terry Savage on June 18, 2020 |

I filed as a Non-Filer at the IRS site on April 18th and actually received my meager refund via direct deposit on May 6th (so, that works!). Since then, I’ve checked the “Get My Payment” section about three to four times; receiving the “Payment Status Not Available” message. I’ve then checked the FAQs: “Why can’t I get my payment status?” This following is closest to applying to me: *If you verified your identity and received “Payment Status Not Available,” this means we cannot determine your eligibility for a payment at this time. This may occur for a variety of reasons, for example, if you didn’t file either a 2018 or 2019 tax return or you recently filed and the return has not been fully processed.* Any idea what “fully processed” means? Terry, many thanks!

So you got a tax refund, but not your stimulus check?
Is it possible you were declared a dependent on someone else’s return in either 2018 or 2019? If so, you won’t get a stimulus check.
If not, there is still hope for your check. It will come the same way you received your tax refund. OR it could come on a debit card that arrives in a plain white envelope with the card inside. So be on the lookout.

And totally ignore that website. It is a mess and guaranteed to drive you crazy! Let me know if you still haven’t received it in a month (assuming you qualify and were not a dependent).
