Ask Terry Questions phone scams

phone scams

By Terry Savage on November 22, 2024 | Wild Card

We got a text from a bank that we do business with about a credit card charge, but we do not have a credit card with that bank. Since this was a text, how do we protect ourselves from future contact?
Can we block? Should we change any passwords? Thanks for your help.

You should FREEZE your credit report at all three bureaus. Read this: https://www.terrysavage.com/identity-theft-update/

Also, contact your bank immediately. Let them know about the text. You’ll probably want to change your debit card PIN, and ask they to watch your account. Check your balance online every few days to make sure no fraudulent withdrawals have taken place.
