Ask Terry Questions POA-H Young Adults

POA-H Young Adults

By Terry Savage on May 22, 2025 | Wild Card

Should you have a POA-H in place for your young adult single children? Like for when they go away to college?

Terry Says

If your children are minors, you automatically have power of attorney.
If they are young adults, you should ask them if they want to sign a healthcare power of attorney — just in case of a situation where they are incapable of making decisions on their own (something too horrible to think about, but then again …..).
Sounds like a good idea to me, but you know that 20-somethings think they are immortal!
