Please tell me they will be extending the unemployment for gig workers! As of July 25th I am getting nothing and I’m in tears. My ides account says no more and I don’t know what to do. I need some money. I’m a gig 1099 worker and have nothing right now. Please tell me they will extend it to gig workers as well. I can’t get any money from the state at all. What can I do?

Depending on when you were unemployed, you might be mistaken. Yes, the extra $600 has run out from Federal Funds. But Illinois residents are entitle to 26 weeks of traditional unemployment, plus an additional 13 weeks — under the Cares Act. Thus, I believe you will still receive the basic unemployment benefit for 39 weeks from the date of unemployment. It won’t be much, but it also won’t be “nothing.”

Per this legal opinion: The CARES Act’s Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC) entitles eligible Illinois workers to an additional 13 weeks of unemployment benefits (on top of whatever duration is already provided for under Illinois state law).
