PUA and ShortTerm Rental income

By Terry Savage on June 13, 2021 | Wild Card

Hi Terry,
We own our 2 family home and have been running a short-term rental in the 2nd unit since 2018, which we file as a Schedule E on our taxes. When Covid hit we were no longer able to run the STR but we also did not qualify for any SBA assistance. We received the minimal PUA as both of us are independent contractors for our other work. Now that we have started up our STR again I am wondering if we can still collect the PUA as our other work is still suffering…Thank you so much!

Terry Says

Your PUA unemployment benefits were not based on your investment income from your rental. If you’re still certifying a loss of income, you should be able to collect PUA until your benefits expire.
