Purchasing Bonds in my iRA

By Terry Savage on November 08, 2022 | Financial Planning / Retirement

I am 70 and retired. My IRA was invested in an Ameritrade account and is loosing ground quickly. I have some chicken money and thought I should invest in an I Bond or Treasury Bill
Is this a good idea and should I move some IRA money as well?

Terry Says

Sorry, but you can’t invest IRA money directly into T-bills or Savings Bonds. But you can move SOME of your IRA money into something safer, like a very short-term bond fund or a MM fund, if you are worried about losses. Keep in mind that you might need to use this money over the next 20 years! So you need some diversified stock investments in your IRA to help offset the impact of inflation. Take a close look at what’s INSIDE your IRA!
