Ask Terry Questions Purchasing I Bonds for minor grandchildren

Purchasing I Bonds for minor grandchildren

By Terry Savage on April 04, 2022 | Chicken Money

I have purchased an I bond for myself. Is it possible to set up a treasury direct account for my minor grandchildren to benefit from the current interest rate?

Terry Says

Yes, but you have to create a “minor-linked” account at TreasuryDirect.gov with an adult as custodian.
(by the way, this could eventually have an impact on college financial aid!)
Here’s a link to how to gift bonds from the government website.
