Purchasing Treasury Securities direct

By Terry Savage on July 16, 2018 |

Terry, Prior to purchasing is the interest rate published? I am 82 years of age and having difficulty completing the tasks to purchase Treasury securities. Is there a book I can purchase to walk me through the process?
Help, Thank you

At this stage of your life, and assuming that you can settle for slightly less interest on your money, I’d just stick with a FDIC insured Certificate of Deposit at your bank. In order to purchase Treasury bills you need to open an account at www.TreasuryDirect.gov and link it to your bank account, so money can be withdrawn to pay for your purchase. It’s easy if you’re tech savvy. Or if you have a child or grandchild who can help you. Otherwise stick with bank money market deposit accounts and CDs.
