Retirement and 401k

By Terry Savage on August 06, 2023 | Financial Planning / Retirement

My husband and I are retired. Our monthly disposable income is about $1000 less then would make us comfortable to pay bills without stress. We have 350,000 in an 401K. I am 65, he is 67. We have 109,000 left on our mortgage. Should I go back to work or does it make sense to use start taking for our retirement.

Terry Says

Honestly, I think you would both be happier — and better off in the long run — if you would continue to work at least part time, and bring in enough income so you don’t have to dig into your retirement funds until it is required at age 73! No one says you have to go back to a full time job — but there are plenty of businesses looking for smart, responsible seniors –and would love to have you on a part-time basis.
