Retirement planner in addition to Robo Advisor?

By Terry Savage on October 22, 2020 | Financial Planning / Retirement

Hi Terry. I currently deal with a so-called “robo advisor” at Vanguard. He is actually a CFP personal financial advisor and we meet virtually on a quarterly basis and I am happy with my asset allocations and investments and timeline with my retirement income. I am 65 and thinking of retiring in a couple of years. But do you think I would benefit from talking to another non-Vanguard CFP to “round out” my retirement planning? We are good with our living trust and insurance but not sure if we should engage another planner outside or in lieu of, our Vanguard advisor. Thank you.

Robo advisors are, by definition, not people! so it’s difficult to answer your question. I’m not sure what kind of program you’re in at Vanguard, and if this advisor has discussed retirement withdrawals, as well as investments. And issues like tax planning, estate planning, long term care insurance, etc. If you’ve done all that, you’re pretty well covered.
BUT, if you want a “second opinion” I understand. Go to my website, top right corner, and in one of those blue boxes click on Find a Financial Planner. That link takes you to the Wealthramp matching service for FIDUCIARY (your interests first) FEE-ONLY financial planners.
They are carefully chosen and you can trust the person you are matched with.
