retirement portfoilio

Hi Terry,
From January of 2022 to date, my wife and I have lost roughly 13 percent of our entire retirement portfolio (401K, 403B, IRA, stocks & bonds, etc). Since we lost so much, so fast, why does it seem to take years (seemingly – most likely 2 to 3 years) for us to just recoup what we have lost?

You’ve just learned an old Savage Truth: Markets fall faster than they rise. But the market is rebounding, and over time (assuming you have both time and discipline) you will come out ahead, according to history. There has never been a 20 year period where you would have lost money in a diversified portfolio of large company American stocks with dividends reinvested.
