Ask Terry Questions Retirement Software like Boldin

Retirement Software like Boldin

By Terry Savage on August 09, 2026 | Financial Planning / Retirement

Terry:
Your last two columns caused me to hyperventilate and gave me an anxiety attack, I had to talk myself off the bottom step of our deck. Now to my question. Do you have anything good or bad to say about retirement software like Boldin or others? I realize they do not take the place of a fiduciary financial advisor. But would they help educate or clarify a couples overall retirement. I put together a massive excel spreadsheet with projected income and spending for the coming year and then added in inflation to project out another nine years just to get an idea of where we are going. While the spreadsheet does help make us think through our retirement, I am looking to see if I missed anything or made some wrong assumptions. I will get the aspirin and antacid ready in antipation of your next column: The End of Days.

Well, at least I made you think! What’s wrong with getting some independent, trusted advice? You don’t have to turn over your finances to an advisor — but at least you could schedule a review.
You know the old saying about software: Junk in, junk out! There may be some things you haven’t considered in your spreadsheet. And emotion is one of those things that isn’t easily quantified. I’m talking about the kind of emotions I referred to in my newsletter — fear and greed.
