RMD

By Terry Savage on January 23, 2023 | Financial Planning / Retirement

I turned 72 on 12/25/22. I withdrew from my 401 K earlier in 2022 a total that would actually be greater than my RMD. Because I withdrew before turning 72 , does this count as my RMD?! I understand that if I hadn’t withdrawn anything in 2022 that I would need to withdraw twice in 2023. Once before April and then again before end of 2023
Will the fact that I withdrew in 2022 even before turning 72 allow me to only withdraw once in 2023. ??? Thanks

As long as you took an RMD in the year you turned 72 (under the rules existing in 2022) it doesn’t matter WHEN you took it. You’re covered!
