RMD if I’m 71 this year?

By Terry Savage on January 12, 2021 | Financial Planning / Retirement

Just a quick question. I turn 72 on November 23rd 2021. Am I required to take a RMD for the year of 2021? What would the latest date I could take it? Thank You.

Terry Says

You reach age 70½ after December 31, 2019, so you are not required to take a minimum distribution until you reach 72. You will reach age 72 on November 23, 2021. You must take your first RMD (for 2021) by April 1, 2022, with subsequent RMDs by December 31st annually thereafter.
