RMD Withdrawls from 40lk

By Terry Savage on July 18, 2025 | Financial Planning / Retirement

When it comes to RMD’s of your 401k accounts, if you have two accounts with different companies, do you have to take the RMD with each or total them up and withdraw from that from the one that isn’t doing as well as the other?

Terry Says

This is a good argument for doing a rollover into one IRA if you have left the company. (If you are still working for the same company after age 73, you are not required to take an RMD from that plan.)

And YES, unlike IRAs which can be lumped together, if you have old 40l(k) plans, you must take a distribution from each.
