Ask Terry Questions Roth Conversion

Roth Conversion

By Terry Savage on March 14, 2020 | Financial Planning / Retirement

I am 64 years old and have an Individual IRA (approx. $450,000) with some stock index fund holdings. With the current market conditions I am thinking that this may be a good opportunity to convert a portion of this to a Roth IRA with the same stock index fund. Do you agree?

Terry Says

Wait a little longer for the market to fall farther. You don’t want to convert and pay taxes on all that money — and then watch the market fall farther! I’m thinking you’ll have a much better opportunity to convert at lower prices in the coming months.
