Ask Terry Questions Savings bonds

Savings bonds

By Terry Savage on November 17, 2024 | Chicken Money

I found U.S. Savings Bond “EE” from the late 1980″s thru the early 2000″s. These bonds were given to my newborn children (1 boy, 1 girl) and as they grew. The names and Social Security numbers don’t all match.

That’s ok. Now you have the complicated process of cashing them in, which will take a while since they are paper bonds.
This page at TreasuryDirect.gov will guide you through the process.

The owner of the bond will owe taxes on the gains, so don’t forget to set some money aside for that!
