Ask Terry Questions Savings Bonds

Savings Bonds

By Terry Savage on December 19, 2019 | Chicken Money

I not sure if I would be better off saving with US Saving Bonds “I” for is should save money in CD’s. I get confused with the “I” Bonds.

Terry Says

Do NOT buy U.S. Savings bonds any more. They have changed the formula for calculating interest and it is no longer favorable. Yes, that’s a sad story. But do note that older savings bonds have a higher minimum “floor” on rates, and could be very valuable. So hold those until they mature.
Search at Bankrate.com for highest rate CDs. And consider buying U.S. Treasury Bills from TreasuryDirect.gov. Here is a link to my column explaining How to Buy Treasury Bills.
