Ask Terry Questions Savings with Acorn

Savings with Acorn

By Terry Savage on February 19, 2020 | Wild Card

What is your opinion on micro-savings accounts like Acorns? Are they legitimate? Are they reliable? Will they hold up over time? I’m a 47 year old single female with a pension and 403b.

Terry Says

Acorns is a wonderful program that makes saving and investing easy. It started by automatically “rounding up” your purchases to the next full dollar, and taking those small amounts (after they reach $5) and putting them in various investment portfolios designed for growth. Now they have IRAs and much more. Plus it’s not just “small change” anymore. You can add larger amounts of money — and many people do just to get access to their well-designed, low cost investment portfolios. I’m a fan!
