Ask Terry Questions Select Portfolio aka SPS

Select Portfolio aka SPS

By Terry Savage on June 08, 2021 | Housing / Real Estate

A few years back my husband and I had our mortgage through SPS. My husband got laid off and i called SPS and explained to them the situation we were in. I asked if I could skip 3mnts of mortgage payments, they were willing to help. I asked if the 3mnts could be tacked on at the end and was told yes, absolutely. My husband and I thought we would be good that is until the mortgage statement came in and what SPS actually did was take the 3mnts we were behind and divided it into the 4th, 5th and 6mnt which increased our mortgage payment. We called SPS and was told that no form of payback was chosen so SPS took it upon themselves to add the owed balance into the 4th 5th & 6th month. I was furious, we borrowed money from my parents and got current with the payments and we refinanced. When I heard you on the WBBM Chicago this morning and you spoke those three letters SPS I knew I had to get in touch with you. Have a pleasant evening.

Terry Says

Yes, SPS has a long history of consumer ripoffs, and has paid penalties in the past. But they keep getting away with it — and now they have a new opportunity. I am forwarding my column to HUD and to the VA, as well as major news organizations. I am glad yhou were able to get away from them!
