Ask Terry Questions Series EE Bond

Series EE Bond

By Terry Savage on April 20, 2024 | Chicken Money

Hi Terry, my wife passed away about 2.5 years ago. I came across a Series EE paper Bond for $250 that her Dad gave her. The POD is her Dad. Well both have passed on. So wondering if me being the spousal survivor, can I cash it in?

Terry Says

Yes, you can. But you’ll likely need copies of the death certificate for both of them, and documentation that you’re the only surviving heir, or executor of their estates.

You’ll have to mail in the bond, registered mail. Read this for instructions:

If you have a problem, please write back to me. I have a friend at Treasury who always helps out in these cases!
