hi Terry
if someone is on SSI income only and they want to try and better themselves by buying an I bond. their question is will this affect the SSI money there currently getting.

There are asset limits to qualify for SSI.
If you are single, you can have only $2,000 worth of resources to be eligible for SSI benefits. If you are married, you can have up to $3,000 worth of resources.

That includes money in the bank or Savings Bonds. And remember, Savings Bonds should be held for 5 years. So I don’t think this is a good idea even with the higher current rates.
