Series I bonds value accrual

By Terry Savage on May 08, 2022 | Chicken Money

Hi Terry,
We listen to you via the WGN app form southern Illinois area near Carbondale. Based on your recommendation we purchased $10,000 worth of I-Bonds electronically on November 18th, 2021. We have looked at our account today and we can not see any of the interest accrued over the last six months which should have been around 7.6%. Is there a place where you can see this interest accrual on the Department of Treasury account? Our account still only shows $10,000 nothing more…can you please help?
Thank you
Olga

Only the “holding” shows in your Treasury Direct account — not the current value. But there is a section of the website where you can enter your account number and get the current value of your holdings. I think those only post after the end of a 6 month period for Ibonds. And you know you must hold them at least 1 year before selling — and at least 5 years to avoid a 3 months loss of interest penalty. This is something you just put away and smile about for at least 5 years!!
