Should we trust one company to manage all our retirement money?

By Terry Savage on October 13, 2025 | Financial Planning / Retirement

Hello Terry,
My wife and I are 65 years old and are planning to retire. My wife works for USPS and has 401K in the TSP. I have IRA and 401K. We have investments, life insurance and long term care insurance with NW Mutual. Our NW advisor is asking us to move all our investments to their company. Is it a good idea to trust them with our retirement planning? Can we consult an independent financial advisor to look into the proposal and advise us? Or will they only provide their retirement plan?
Thank you for helping.
Best regards,

Northwestern Mutual is a good company, but not the least expensive. And it all depends on the individual advisor.
If this were a medical issue, you’d want to get a second opinion from a trusted source.
Here’s how to find a fee-only FIDUCIARY advisor you can trust.
