Signing up for SS# using login.gov
HI, I’m turning 70yr in Sept. I’m concerned about identify theft. What is login.gov? I tried to fill in all the spaces on their website and freaked out when they wanted a photo of my drivers license and a selfie. I bailed out, too much info. Is login.gov the only way to sign up for SS? Is it better to wait for one month after my birth day – pull SS in Oct. 2026? Thank you

There is now a standard way to log in securely to all Federal accounts, from TSA for flight security to Social Security. And yes, you have to go through the entire procedure to create a profile and secure login.
Make sure you are at the correct site: https://secure.ssa.gov/RIL/SiView.action
We live in a digital world now, and you have to participate! And you should sign up a month before, and tell them you want to start benefits at age 70.The Social Security Administration pays benefits in arrears. For example, if your 70th birthday is in May and you want your benefits to start then, your first check will be paid in June.
