Ask Terry Questions Simple IRA

Simple IRA

By Terry Savage on November 11, 2024 | Investments

Are bond funds good to have my money in right now? Are there better funds for this economy. I am 65 years old and my employer has a Simple IRA. Most are Vanguard accounts but there are a lot of Fidelity Freedom accounts, now sure what those are.

Terry Says

Your employer should be providing some investment guidance through Fidelity for your account. Your stock funds have done well. There is some concern about bond funds going forward, because if interest rates rise (because of huge deficits) then bond prices will fall.
Is there a more conservative money market or guaranteed rate contract inside your plan? that would be a place to stash more of your money as you move toward retirement. Ask your HR department if they provide any guidance from Fidelity.
