Social security
My husband(69 yo) has never paid into SS as he worked for Cook County. His Monthly pension is $6300. I am 64 yo and will be taking SS next year. Is my husband eligible for SS through me or will his income (IRMA) make him ineligible?
Thank you

You get Social Security based on your own record. And I suggest you wait until age 67 –Full Retirement Age –to get your maximum benefit. Another reason to wait until YOUR full retirement age, is that it makes your spouse (married for over a year) eligible to get HALF of your benefit. Again, don’t start early or it significantly reduces both benefits!
One more thing, though you didn’t ask. He is getting a hefty pension. Did you give up your rights to survivor’s benefits under HIS pension?? Be sure to ask. You might wind up with only your SS if he dies. And again, you’d want the largest possible check.
