Social Security

I am still working but turning 70 in a few months and hoping to retire at that time. My wife has been a stay-at-home mom all these years and only has 32 credits for SS. Is she eligible for SS benefits and does this effect Medicare benefits.

Terry Says

How old is your wife? She became eligible for half of your benefits (half of your benefit at your full retirement age — not your increased benefit at age 70) when she reached HER full retirement age. If she has reached her own FRA, she should apply for half your earned benefit. If she has not reached her own FRA (just under 67) she should wait to claim on your record.
