I will turn 70 on December 25,2026. I have not applied for my benefits . I want to make sure I receive the 8% per year increase plus the COLA for the year 2026. I would like your opinion on when I should apply. During January of 2027.

You should apply in November, and clearly state that you want it to begin after your 70th birthday. Do not fall for the “we’ll pay you 6 months in arrears deal” that reduces your benefit! Since SS pays one month in arrears, you’ll receive your first check in January, 2027.
