Social Security

By Terry Savage on August 27, 2026 | Social Security

My husband was receiving SS retirement benefits starting at age 68 1/2. He passed in July ’26 at 69 years old. I was receiving my SS retirement at age 65. SS is telling me I don’t qualify for the full widow’s benefits, it has been significantly reduced compared to what he was getting. Why don’t I qualify for the full amount? Do I accept this amount and it changes at later date? Or do I appeal their decision?

Call again. You probably got an idiot on the line. If you were married at least 9 months, you are entitled to 100% of his benefit. If you still get denied, please write back to the email you receive saying your question was answered.
