Ask Terry Questions Social Security

Social Security

Hi Terry I’m going to be seventy in August, my wife is five years older. She took her social security at 67 and I was 62, the agent at the time told us we can take it together and both receive the same amount. Now I heard on a finance show that when I turn 70 ,I can reapply and get the 70 amount figure. Terry did I hear it wrong and have you ever heard about this Social Security program .

You actually started taking SS at age 62?? If so, now it’s far too late to turn back the clock. That was a huge mistake — one that cost you almost an additional 50% to your benefit if you had waited until age 70.
