Social Security and Trump Policies that may delay processing payment

By Terry Savage on February 16, 2025 | Social Security

I am 69 years old and was going to wait until 70 to claim SS payments, but Trumps’ new DOGE group and his reduction in the federal work force is making me nervous. There may not be enough staffing at SS and any processing of future payments like mine are in jeopardy. I am starting to think I was a fool for waiting this long to apply for SS payments, which I am about to do PRONTO before the damage to the Social Security Administration is in full swing. Feel free to publish this because it is an IMPORTANT question considering what is happening to our government workforce. Thanks.

Terry Says

Many people are concerned with various aspects of Treasury financing and payments, based on some headline articles about DOGE interference and access with the payments system. All I can say is that the U.S. dollar is the global currency of commerce. If anything calls into question the promises of the U.S. dollar, we will all have a lot more to worry about than even SS payments.

So believe in the rule of law, and the fact that you will receive an additional 8% of base pay from SS if you wait until age 70. That higher payment will be the base on which future inflation adjustments are made.
