Ask Terry Questions Social Security Benefits

Social Security Benefits

By Terry Savage on December 14, 2023 | Financial Planning / Retirement

Next month I can start receiving widow SS benefits. I will be retiring in 2024. Should I hold off on receiving the widow SS benefits and take from my 401K or vice versa?

Terry Says

OK, that depends on whether you qualify on your own for benefit, and could take your widows benefit now and delay your own benefits till age 70, when they will be much larger. But they trick you into signing up for both at the same time!
