Social Security benefits

By Terry Savage on December 18, 2022 | Financial Planning / Retirement

I am 68 yrs. I am divorced after 20 yrs of marriage. I currently receive my own SS benefits. Can I collect any SS benefits from my ex-husbands SS in addition to my own ?

Terry Says

You can collect one-half of your ex-husband’s benefit OR your own — whichever is greater. And it doesn’t matter if your ex-spouse has already started to collect.
Here’s information from Social Security on how to go about doing that: https://www.ssa.gov/forms/ssa-2.html
