Social Security Disability — when does it end?

By Terry Savage on December 27, 2020 | Financial Planning / Retirement

If you are on SSI (Disability) before you turn 62 will Department of Social Security lowering your income down to regular SS after you turn 62?

Terry Says

At full retirement age — currently 66 and gradually rising to 67 over the next several years — your SSDI payment converts to a retirement benefit. Between 62 (early benefits for SS) and full retirement age, your disability check will likely be larger than a SS monthly check if taken early. Plus if you take SS early, your check is significantly reduced permanently. At Full Retirement Age they will automatically switch you over to traditional SS.
