Ask Terry Questions social security fairness act

social security fairness act

By Terry Savage on February 21, 2025 | Social Security

Hi, Terry, big fan here. My question concerning the fairness act is about public employees who never paid into SS. Actually I do have 20 quarters from military service but not enough obviously to qualify for SS. My wife does qualify and has been receiving her benefits for awhile. Is it my understanding if she passes away I will get her benefit? Hopefully she will be with us for quite awhile but I was curious. Thank you, John Z.

Terry Says

There will no longer be a reduction of individual benefits, spousal benefits or survivor benefits because of the WEP or GPO.
