Social Security Fairness Act
Good Morning Terry:
I just read your informative article in the Trib.
My question is many retired public employees do not get the benefit of receiving 1/2 of their retired husbands social security because they are required to reduce their husbands 1/2 by 2/3 of what they receive as retired teachers.
Will they now receive 1/2 of their husbands now that the Social Security Fairness Act has been signed.

Yes, when they reprogram the computers, spouses will receive either their own SS, or their spousal benefit, whichever is larger. HOpefully that will start soon!
