Social Security Horror Story followup

By Terry Savage on February 16, 2025 | Social Security

Good Morning,
So I read your book, and looked at my SSA.gov statement. I did find all years appear to be correct regarding my “taxed SS earnings and taxed Medicare earnings”, except one. All the columns match exactly except for this one! In 1989 SSA reports $12,428 for SS earnings but $45,974 for Medicare earnings! Now what? And would the Medicare side be a problem one way or the other, even if it were corrected? Any info on how to report this apparent error, would be appreciated. Thank you, in advance. You have really been a financial blessing to us.

I don’t know how that happened, but I wouldn’t worry about it! Your social security benefit is based on your highest 35 years of earnings. So you’re likely well past that now!
And once you get Medicare age 65, having qualified through Social Security, your earnings level doesn’t really matter. WE all get the same benefits. (But some of us pay higher monthly premiums for Medicare Part B based on CURRENT earnings!)
