Social Security Spousal Benefits
Hi Terry,
My wife is a retired IL grade school teacher. She draws a pension. She also has 30 social security credits. I have been drawing social security benefits for 3 years.
I have heard that my wife can now apply for social security benefits in her own name, which would be in addition to her pension. Is this true?

Yes, she can. Or she can apply for half of yours –= whichever is larger. To find out, you might want to go to www.MaximizeMySocialSecurity.com and insert your info. It will tell you how much she is entitled to –and whether she should apply for half your benefit. It costs $49, but is well worth it so you know the right answer BEFORE you ask SS!
