SOCIAL SECURITY — spouse’s or mine?

By Terry Savage on January 27, 2022 | Financial Planning / Retirement

Hello Terry –

My ex was born in 1952. And is collecting SS.  I was born in 57. I am not collecting. His SS payment is less than what mine would be.   Can I collect on his?

I’m going to send you to www.MaximizemySocialSecurity.com

There you can input all the relevant details of income and get the correct answer to your question. The cost to use the tool is $40, but it’s worth it because this decision has long-lasting impact on your finances.

IMPORTANT: I’m assuming you know that you can only collect his benefits as an “ex” if you were married 10 years.
