Someone used my granddaughters social security number

My granddaughter’s social security number has been used by someone. The person tried to file taxes under her name & SS#. She was notified by the IRS because the documents furnished to the IRS
did not match. She is trying to apply for financial aid for college and the community college says they can not use her SS #. What can we do to get this straightened out?
