spousal benefit social security
Wife is receiving her social security. When I retire at FRA she will be entitled to 50% of my then benefit. If I retire 6 months early I know my benefit will be slightly reduced. What impact will this have on her new benefit?
I have received 3 different and conflicting responses from social security.
I believe her benefit to be based in my PIA hence unchanged.

Wait. First, if she waited until her Full Retirement Age, she will receive the LARGER of her own benefit or 50% of your benefit — but not both! If she took her own benefit early, then her benefit amount will be permanently reduced, and also the benefit she might get from your record.
And don’t even think of taking YOUR Social Security 6 months early! It will permanently reduce YOUR benefit.
